Join Dr Richard Stone, Department of Historical Studies University of Bristol on a historic boat tour to the Floating Ballast Seed Garden.


Boat tour led by Dr Richard Stone, Department of Historical Studies University of Bristol. This boat trip will take you back to Bristol’s sea-faring past, evoking a world of great ships, wooden cranes and a bustling Harbourside.

Richard is a maritime and economic historian, specialising in seventeenth century Bristol. Published articles include ‘The overseas trade of Bristol before the Civil War’(International Journal of Maritime History, 2011). Richard is currently working on a book centered on Bristol’s involvement in the early American trades.

This event has been part funded by AHRC through the AHRC Cultural Engagement Fund pilot scheme, working with Research Fellow Catherine Hunt, University of Bristol.

Steven Claydon’s work brings together objects recalling historical artefacts, cultural ephemera and geological samples, skillfully mixing different cultures and periods of history. Merging reality with fiction, and appearing at once meaningful and useless, Claydon’s works oscillate between an idea of truth and fantasy, seeming to offer a fragmented image of a future civilisation’s past. He will talk about his practice and new commission in Bristol.
