Artist Commission for Wapping Wharf, Bristol - OPEN CALL
Deadline 19th August 2013
Wapping Wharf (artists impression)
Wapping Wharf is the new waterside quarter located on the south side of Bristol’s historic harbour, behind the new M Shed museum of Bristol. This development by Umberslade will transform the area into a lively community of new homes, shops, offices, cafes and restaurants
Umberslade are seeking to commission an artist to work with them on the first stage of the public art programme. The artist will develop work to be incorporated into a passage from the main walking route to an area of secluded garden. The commission aims to create a space within the new development to be glimpsed and revealed as people move around the site.
Whilst this commission if for a 2-dimensional building surface we are open to how this is approached and we would welcome applications from a range of backgrounds and practices. The selected artist will work closely with the architect and with fabricators in the final production of work, so experience of working on an architectural scale is not a requirement. The passage creates a small defined space and it would be appropriate to consider the effect of the commission on the entire space and the people that interact with that space, rather than purely as a surface decoration.
The overall budget for the artist commission is in the region of £45,000 (ex vat) including artist fees, fabrication and installation.
Ginkgo Projects is producing this project on behalf of Umberslade. Download the artists brief here
