Can You Stay For A While Or Are You Just Passing Through? Glassfields

Synopsis

A playful text-based artwork integrated into the façade of Glassworks. The phrase ‘Can you stay a while or are you just passing through?’ zigzags across the building, offering passers by shifting perspectives depending on their direction of travel. Created on powder-coated metal, the piece has a conversational quality, engaging with the transient nature of urban life and evoking themes of movement, impermanence, and belonging.

Designed by Studio Mothership and produced by MAYK as part of Confluence.

About Confluence

How does our relationship with where we live change over time? What is the future of our city?

Artists are invited to explore the ever-changing landscape of Bristol city centre in a residency and events programme, ConfluenceBristol-based producing organisation MAYK has been commissioned by Ginkgo Projects to devise an artistic programme that explores how Bristol’s city centre is rapidly changing.

Confluence takes an innovative and proactive approach to cultural programming for new building developments – created for The Glassworks (Redcliffe’s newest student accommodation) managed by Fresh. The programme is representative of Bristol City Council’s expansive approach to commissioning culture in the public realm.

Please note: Confluence is happening at various locations and across the Glassworks development in Redcliffe. Part-one was initiated in late 2023, with Part-two currently underway.
