northcabin – Inherent Sin

northcabin is a temporary commissioning programme taking place in a disused operating cabin on Redcliffe Bridge, Bristol. northcabin commissions emerging artists to produce unique and ambitious artworks for the public realm.

Gary O’Connor began researching the history of Redcliffe Bridge and surrounding area discovering that the bridge was built at the outbreak of the Second World War and survived whilst Bristol was heavily bombed. From this initial research O’Connor went on to write a short piece of prose that formed the backbone of the project, expanding into the physical installation inside the cabin: The more I contemplated the cabin, the bridge, and the dark murky waters below; the more it conjured up thoughts of intrigue, suspense and mystery. O’Connor aimed to introduce a sense of theatre into the space, whilst at the same time explored its historical context and its relationship to the surrounding landscape.
